Residential Energy Performance Certificate - EPC for Northern Ireland An Energy Performance Certificate is required for every residential property for sale or to rent in NI after 30 June 2008 regardless of when they were placed on the market. From the date you receive your Energy Performance Certificate it will remain valid for 10 years.An EPC is essentially a document which states the energy efficiency of a building showing carbon dioxide ratings in bandings from A to G, with A being the least polluting and G being the most.
